How do I program the TiVo remote to control my TV?
Press the [TiVo] button to go to TiVo Home, and then navigate to 
Menu > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Remote Control Setup >Set TV power, volume, and mute. A list of television manufacturers will display. Use the [channel up/down] buttons on the remote control to locate and select the appropriate manufacturer. A code list will display. Follow the on-screen instructions:
- Press and hold the [TiVo] and [TV Power] buttons until the activity indicator light turns red.
- Enter a 4-digit code from the list, the test the [TV Power] button.
- If the code does not work, repeat the instructions above for each additional code, until one works to control the TV Power and Volume. If no code works, then there is no code available for that TV model.
Can I program my remote without a code?
Maybe. Please try the following steps to try all available remote signals:
- Cover the front end of the TiVo remote control with your hand.
- Hold down the [TiVo] and [TV Power] buttons simultaneously until the red (or amber) light on the remote control remains on.
- Remove your hand from the end of the TiVo remote control.
- Enter code 0999.
- After you enter the code, the red (or amber) light will flash three times and then remain on.
- Press [Channel Up] once every two seconds. This will test hundreds of codes, one by one. Please note: Patience is a virtue! Don’t go any faster than this, or you may skip over a code that works.
- If you press [Channel Up] and your TV turns off, press [Enter] to select the code. Press the [TV Power] button to test the code. If your TV turns on, you have successfully programmed the remote.
- If you cycle through all the codes, the red LED will go off to indicate that you have tried all the codes. If this happens, or if you selected a code but the TV does not respond to the test, repeat the process to make sure you did not skip over your code by going too fast.
Can I pair the remote to the box so that I don’t need to point it directly at the box to change channels?
Yes! You can pair the remote to the TiVo box so that you will not need direct line-of-sight to the box to work the cable functions. This will also enable additional features such as the Voice function and Remote Finder.
- Press the [TiVo] button to go to TiVo Home, and then navigate to
Menu > Settings > Remote, CableCARD & Devices > Remote Control Setup > Pair remote with your TiVo box. - While on this screen, press and hold the [TiVo] and [Back] buttons together until the light at the top of the remote remains lit. Release the buttons, and the light will blink yellow/amber while pairing.
- When the light stops blinking, press the [TiVo] button to return to the Home Menu.
- Press the blue [Voice/Microphone] button on the remote to confirm the blue Voice icon appears on your TV screen. When your remote is paired to the TiVo, pressing channel buttons, Guide, Info, etc., should cause an amber light to flash at the top of the remote.
The pairing steps did not work.
Every time I press a button, the light on the remote blinks yellow for 30 seconds.
If the initial pairing steps did not work, or you recently obtained a new remote and need to pair it to a box that previously had a paired remote, you may need to force a new pairing for the remote and your TiVo. Please try the following steps:
- Press and hold [TiVo] and the red [C] button together until the light at the top of the remote blinks red.
- Press any button and confirm that the light blinks red with each button press (it should no longer flash amber/yellow).
- Press the [Live TV] button.
- Press [Clear], [Enter], [Clear], 2-2-1, [Clear]. This will send a signal to clear any previous pairings on the TiVo box.
- Press the [TiVo] button to go to TiVo Home, and then navigate to
Menu > Settings > Remote, CableCARD & Devices > Remote Control Setup > Pair remote with your TiVo box. - Press and hold the [TiVo] and [Back] buttons together until the light at the top of the remote remains lit. Release the buttons, and the light will blink yellow/amber while pairing.
- When the light stops blinking, press the [TiVo] button to return to the Home Menu.
- Press the blue [Voice/Microphone] button on the remote to confirm the blue Voice icon appears on your TV screen. When your remote is paired to the TiVo, pressing channel buttons, Guide, Info, etc., should cause an amber light to flash at the top of the remote.
- Press any button on the remote and confirm that the light blinks amber with each button press.
- The remote is now paired with the TiVo.
How do I use the voice function on my TiVo remote?
First, please make sure you have paired the remote to the TiVo. Press the blue [Voice/Microphone] 
button on the remote to confirm the blue Voice icon appears on your TV screen.
Hold down the blue [Voice/Microphone] button and speak into the pinhole beneath the [TiVo] button 
. You can say the name of a show, movie, actor, etc. Release the [Voice/Microphone] button when done. The TiVo will either take you to a specific listing or provide a list of options from which to choose.
If nothing happens after pressing the [Voice/Microphone] button or you receive a message stating “the voice service is not available right now,” please reboot the TiVo box by unplugging it from the power, waiting for 30 seconds, and plugging it back in. Once your TiVo is back up and running, please try the voice function again.

- “Fast-forward five minutes”
- “Rewind eight minutes”
- “Go to live TV”
- “Pause”
- “Play”
- “Turn on closed captions”
- “Launch Hulu”

Help! I can’t find my remote!
No problem! If you paired the remote to your TiVo box, you can use the Remote Finder feature to track it down.
A [Remote Finder] button is located on the front of standard TiVo DVRs, or on the back of TiVo 4K DVRs.

After you press the [Remote Finder] button, music will begin to play from the remote to help you locate it. When you find the remote, press any button to stop the tune from playing.
