How do I set up parental controls?
Parental controls can be used to block purchases, specific channels, and ratings. Blocked content can be accessed by entering a 4-digit PIN.
On a Blue Ridge Stream, TiVo DVR, Mini, or Smartbox:
- Press the [TiVo] button and navigate to Menu > Settings > Parental & Purchase Controls.
- Highlight Parental Controls and press [OK]. You will be prompted to create a 4-digit PIN.
- Use the up and down arrows to highlight options and press [OK] to access settings for each.
- Parental Controls: Initially this is set to On-Unlocked. Select it to change to On-Locked and lock in the settings you will choose below.
- Hide Adult Content: Removes adult shows from Search and hides adult titles in the Guide and My Shows.
- Set Ratings Limits: Allows you to block programs above a certain rating. For example: PG-13, TV-14.
- Lock Channels: Allows you to select specific channels to block. (Not available on Blue Ridge Stream.)
- Purchase Controls: Allows you to require PIN entry to rent or purchase Video on Demand or Pay-per-View.
- Change PIN: You will need to enter the current PIN and then confirm a new PIN.
- Disable Parental Control: Permanently turn off parental controls.
TiVo DVR and Mini users, please note:
- When parental controls are activated, the Apps Menu and pressing A for Options in TiVo Home will now require the PIN to access.
- You can add permitted apps you want to be able to access without the PIN to the TiVo Home Shortcuts, at Menu > Settings > User Preferences > Home Shortcuts.
- Apps will not launch with voice commands when parental controls are enabled.
- This does not block the App Jump Channels 594-597. You would need to specifically block these channels via the Lock Channels option.
- This does not disable the Netflix button on the remote, which will continue to launch Netflix even with Parental Controls enabled. Please refer to parental controls within the Netflix app itself.
On a DTA Mini Box:
- Press the[Menu] button and navigate to Settings. Press [OK].
- You will be presented with the following options:
- Turn on Parental Controls: This will allow creation of a blocking PIN.
- Rating Limits: Allows you to set the highest allowed rating. For example: PG-13, TV-14. Offers separate options to allow unrated movies or TV shows.
- Hide Adult Shows: Removes adult titles and descriptions from the Guide and channel banner.
- Lock Channels: Allows you to select specific channels to block.
- Change PIN: Change the blocking PIN.
On a Cisco or Scientific Atlanta Box:
On Cisco and Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, there are separate options for parental controls and purchasing controls.
Please note: If you are asked to enter a PIN but do not remember creating one, please try a default code such as 0000 or 1111. Otherwise, please contact a Blue Ridge customer service agent.
