What’s the difference between a modem and a router?
What is WiFi?
A modem provides the main connection to the internet for your home. It connects to a cable outlet on the wall and converts the cable signal to digital information. You can connect the modem directly to a computer or share your internet connection by connecting the modem to a router. The router allows you to create a home network and connect multiple devices. Most routers also broadcast a wireless signal—commonly known as WiFi—to allow devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones to connect to the internet wirelessly.
