How do I set up notifications?
You have the ability to set up notifications for a variety of scenarios: alarms, arming and disarming, arming reminders, sensor activity, etc. Notifications can be sent as push notifications, SMS text, and email.
On the mobile app:
- Log into the Alarm.com app.
- Tap the Menu button in the top left.
- Tap Notifications.
- Toggle on Push Notifications to receive them to the mobile device you’re using. Once toggled on, additional options appear.
- Choose to Override Do Not Disturb.
- Tap Sounds to set any desired audible alerts.
- Toggle alerts on or off for any notifications you have previously created.
- To create or edit notifications, tap Manage for All Recipients, or tap the gear/settings button in the top right.
- To add a new notification, tap the blue + button.
- Tap Use a Template and select an option to create a notification based on a standard scenario, or Create Your Own to create a notification from scratch. Depending on your selection, different options will be presented.
- You can change the name of the notification.
- Follow any other onscreen prompts, such as selecting alarm type, sensors, system actions, etc., as desired.
- Set the timeframe or schedule if necessary.
- Each notification you create will need a Recipient. Click +Add next to Recipients.
- You can select one or more contacts from existing users using push, text, or email notifications, or click +New Contact to create one.
- If creating a new contact, enter their name, language, mobile/texting number, and email, then select Add Contact.
- When done, tap Save.
- Notifications can be edited or deleted from the Manage Notifications screen. Tap a notification to edit it. Tap the toggle to activate or deactivate a notification. Tap the trash can to delete.
On the web portal:
- Log in to the web portal at https://www.alarm.com/login.
- In the left column, click Notifications.
- Click + New Notification.
- Select the type of notification you wish to create. Examples include Alarm, Arming Event, Arming Reminder, Sensor Activity, System Event, etc. Other scenario options are provided under the Property Awareness, Family, Second Home, and Reminders tabs. Depending on your selection, different options will be presented.
- You can change the name of the notification.
- Make sure to toggle Notification Active if you wish to activate it.
- Follow any other onscreen prompts, such as selecting alarm type, sensors, system actions, etc., as desired.
- Set the timeframe or schedule if necessary.
- Each notification you create will need a Recipient. Click +Add next to Recipients.
- You can select contacts from existing users or click +New Contact to create one.
- If creating a new contact, enter their name, language, mobile/texting number, and email, then select Add Contact.
- When done, click Save.

How do I view my system’s activity history?
System activity history will show you system events from the past 60 days, including logins, arms and disarms, alarms, changes to sensors (such as a door opening), etc.
On the interactive panel:
- From the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Settings tray.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Status.
- Tap History.
On the mobile app:
- Log into the Alarm.com app.
- In the top right corner of the Home screen, tap the
button, with the circled checkmark.
- The past 25 events will be displayed by default. You can scroll through these to view descriptions of each event.
- Tap the wave button
(Apple) or Filters (Android) to open available filters.
- From the Filter tab you can view the past 25 or 50 events, or a timeframe such as today, yesterday, or the past 7 days. You can also filter by event type such as Alarms, Arming or Disarming, Sensor Open/Close, etc. Tap Apply to set your chosen filters.
Please note: The mobile app will only display up to 200 events. The web portal can display more than 200 events, and includes other features and filters.
On the web portal:
- Log in to the web portal at https://www.alarm.com/login.
- In the left column, click Activity.
- From here, you can browse through activity history, with newest events at the top. The page will display 100 events by default. Use the Prev/Next or page numbers to access additional events. Up to 10 pages can be accessed.
- Arms and disarms are displayed as icons, such as the orange shield for arm stay, green shield for disarm, etc. Hover over an icon for a description, or click the drop-down arrow on that activity entry to break down each individual action in the event.
- To search, click in the search bar in the top left, and search for a keyword to find specific events. Ex.: Arm, panel, door, login, etc. To view the full list of events again, click the X in the search box to clear your search.
- To filter, click Filters in the top right. From this menu you can enter a date range, narrow by the user who performed the action, the event type, device type, or device names. To clear the applied filters, click Clear Filters next to the search box.
- Click the three dots to the right of the Filters button for some quick-access filters, such as Thermostat Changes or Video Clips.
How do I put my system in test mode?
Test mode allows you to move sensors, perform equipment maintenance, or test your alarm system without causing the monitoring station to dispatch emergency services. This can be activated from the mobile app.
On the mobile app:
- Log into the Alarm.com app.
- Tap the Menu button in the top left.
- Tap Monitoring Settings.
- Tap System Test Mode.
- Tap on the Duration of time you wish to keep the system on Test Mode, such as 1 or 2 hours.
- Tap Start Test Mode.
- Tap Confirm to activate Test Mode.
- If you wish to deactivate Test Mode before the selected Duration ends, tap Stop Test Mode.
Can the camera record continuously?
Yes, the cameras can record continuously! A purchase of a Stream Video Recorder is required to support 24/7 video. Please contact us to purchase and schedule a technician to install the Stream Video Recorder.
